The Color Purple - (a Peach favourite)

- Alice Walker

( Paperback )

In this classic, Alice Walker tells us the tale of a young Black girl, Celie. Set in the Deep American South, this is a story of segregation and poverty, and of violence towards girls and women. As Celie moves towards womanhood we watch her come into her own, and more than that, we witness that the bonds fostered between women in times of hardship can be lifelines. Written in the form of letters between Celie and her sister Nellie, and in the vernacular, Walker makes it clear to us all that life (and freedom) is really all about interpersonal connections, love and compassion.
